General
Impression
Apollo
hosting has been around for several years. It’s one of the oldest
web hosting companies out there. It offers everything other web hosting
companies offer, but nothing more. Their web hosting plans are also quite
expensive compared to that of other companies and their brand does not
justify the price that they are offering to potential clients. Apollo
does offer redundant connections and it does this through several providers
such as GlobalCenter, Qwest Communications and Genuity.
Price
and Cost Effectiveness
Apollo
web hosting plans starts at $13.96 with a 2 year commitment. This pricing
is above average compared to the rest of the industry. The rest of the
plans continue from this price and goes up. The features they provide
for their plans are also up too par with that of competitors including
SSH Access, SSL, and MySQL. Their PHP also includes the Zend Optimizer.
The only issue we have is with the version of the software they are using.
They are using an older version of MySQL, and they never both upgrading
it. This is a significant problem because certain older software have
security hazards, which needs to be fixed with a newer version of the
software. Furthermore,
on a positive note they include Postini Spam filter and Miva Merchant
in all of their web plans.
Data
Center
Apollo Hosting has connections to Frontier's
GlobalCenter, Qwest and Level3. These are all top tier internet backbone
providers. The combination of these network, make their web hosting stable
and fast.
Customer Service
Apollo
hosting customer support was below competent compared to that of other
web hosting companies. However, they do provide a toll-free number that
you can dial from Monday to Friday from 8 – 5 PM, which are standard
business hours. On top of that, they offer 24 hour chat service that allows
us to communicate with them. However, several times when we used the service
we were never connected to an operator.
Control
Panel
As in all
other areas, Infinology continues to impress with their master control
panel. The "User Guide" provided us with everything we needed
to know from starting my account to activating statistic logs. There is
also a nice tool called Infinology Website Studio that allowed a couple
of our partners to make very impressive websites with only a few clicks.
Furthermore, with the e-commerce options we were able to create an online
store ready to accept credit cards immediately. Our only requirements
were to fill out a few forms and we were done in a matter of minutes.
Overall
Apollo
Web hosting has fast connections and reliable connections to the internet,
but its lack of customer support and high pricing pushes their score down
a few notches. Overall, Apollo Hosting is a competent web hosting provider
providing you with good plans and customer service, but you can get this
with other providers paying only half the price. We suggest you try other
companies, and only use this company as a last resort.
